What's my BMI?
Find out if your BMI qualifies for a potential cost saving on your insurance
Health professionals commonly measure Body Mass Index (BMI) to assess whether patients are a healthy weight. It measures weight in relation to height to determine BMI category (NSW Health):
-
Underweight: BMI of less than 18.5
-
Normal weight: BMI of 18.5 to 24.9
-
Overweight: BMI of 25 to 29.9
-
Obese: BMI of 30 or higher
Insurers also use BMI as part of the application assessment. Some insurers even offer a lifetime discount on your insurance premiums, usually if your BMI is between 18.5 and 28.5 at application.
